Our productions are designed for special needs adults and teens combined with Shadow Actors who support our actors. Shadows are fundamental to the success of My Turn Theater's productions and we would like to fill our stage with Shadows who are supporting and nurturing our special needs actors as they experience live theater. No experience is required.

AUDITION INFO FOR ACTORS
Don't Be Scared
We're glad to see you! We want you to feel comfortable and know that you are with friends. This is your turn to be on stage!
Auditions at MY TURN THEATER are only to decide what role is the right fit for you. There is room for everybody.
Once we begin rehearsals you'll be matched with a shadow actor who will be with you , offering support and help with your lines. If you need a shadow to help you audition, just say so!
You'll never be alone. You're wonderful!
Who May Audition
Our actors are individuals with or without theater experience who have developmental or physical disabilities.
Because our rehearsal schedule is just like all community theaters, it's very time intensive and youngsters just can't keep up so our actors are generally 18 years old an up. We've even had some who are 72 years of age. If an actor is under 18, we need to discuss with the parent or guardian if the actor is able to handle the rehearsal schedule and will then make a decision on an individual basis.
Please know that theater is a commitment. When you audition you are agreeing to attend all rehearsals to which you are called which may be as often as three times a week and for the entire week of "tech week". If you cannot make it to all rehearsals, let us know and we'll try to work with you on that. But TECH WEEK there are no exceptions. You MUST attend tech week and all performances.
HOW TO AUDITION
It's Easy and Fun
Always remember you are with friends. Relax and have fun.
SINGING
You will arrive and, when it's your turn, you'll be asked to sing because our shows are musicals and have a lot of singing in them. It's okay if you're not too great at it - we welcome everybody. But we do like to hear your voice so we know what role suits you. If you absolutely don't wish to sing or are non-verbal, that's okay, too.
What will you sing? We have a small selection you can choose from. You must sing one of them (unless you just don't want to sing at all). The reason we do it this way is that we have an accompanist present and they don't know every song in the world - and probably don't know your favorite song of the week. So it's just easier if we stick to a few songs everybody knows. Please choose one to sing: Happy Birthday, Jingle Bells, or Yankee Doodle Dandy.
If you don't feel comfortable singing alone just ask and we'll get you a shadow to sing with you.
READING
You may be asked to say some lines from the script along with other actors. If you need help, just ask and we'll haves a partner actor help you with your lines. If you are non-verbal we still have a role for you!
